Papers, 1882-1886.

These letters express family news and, in the case of Robert's mother, Annie, admonitions to live a good Christian life, and regret at the wedge between Robert and his father. Robert expresses his independence in a new life away from Virginia, where one's ancestry, wealth and position mean little compared to personal ability and accomplishments.
